SISTER SEA Resident Elletee
Elletee, aka Miss
Modular, took her name from a Stereolab song when she began DJing
in early 1998. Her inspiration to begin spinning came from a visit
to SISTER at Club Deco where she met Siren, who'd been playing for
a mere 5 months. Sick of hearing weak music at clubs, and noticing
that women DJs were not represented fully enough, she saw an opportunity.
Miss
Modular spins jungle and drum and bass music for the most part,
in her home town San Francisco - but that's not all. Techno, tech
house, IDM and downtempo are among the styles in her bag - she likes
to move to a variety of sounds. The main factors in her choice of
tunes are quality and thoughtful programming of sets, not simply
the ability to mix them.
The
fact that it's a man's scene is changing in her eyes - she believes
that it's naive to think that there's no difference in the creative
energy of men and women, and knows it's important to have a broad
spectrum of people behind the decks to get a full representation
of the scene. That's why Miss Modular burns up the turntables like
she does, guesting at SISTER events, at Epiphany parties, and all
over the Bay Area.
